Travis Bickle is a Vietnam vet turned night shift taxi driver, turned almost presidential candidate assassin, turned prostitute protector. He’s an insomniac with PTSD and poor social skills. He has an obsessive personality and really skewed ideas of what it means to be a hero.
Read MoreThe adaptation of books into films can go sideways hard and fast. But in this case, I think the film version of this story is a beautiful compliment to the story that James Baldwin was telling with his novel.
Read MorePrior to taking a dive into the work of Cindy Evans, I had only heard of the movie Temple Grandin. I didn’t have any particular desire to watch it, and didn’t even know what it was about really. But after watching it and then falling into a rabbit hole of research about the amazing woman that this story focuses on, I was kind of obsessed.
Read MoreSome of my earliest remixes were Halloween costumes. I have dragged my hubby, kicking and screaming into some of the best costumes I’ve ever created. We’ve done it for so long now that we’re known for our couple costumes. And now that we have our baby dog, Gloria, she’s gotten in on the action too.
Read MoreI must admit that I’m not familiar with too many films featuring Owen Wilson because he tends to star in comedies, and comedies aren’t usually my thing. And while this movie fits into the category of a romance comedy, It also checks some other boxes like period film, set in Paris and featuring the likes of Marion Cotillard and Kathy Bates, that makes it a film right up my alley.
Read MoreI walked a long winding road to this review, remix and rendering. I’ll explain. I’d watched Legend (2015) about the Kray twins and there was this beautiful mini dress that Francis (Emily Browning) wore on her first date with Reg (Tom Hardy).
Read MoreThis sci-fi extravaganza includes all the things you might expect in a sci-fi film. There’s a plague that kills most of the world, time travel, a post-apocalyptic subterranean dystopia, lots of scrap metal, plastic, wire and dirt. Oh, and there’s Brad Pitt with a wonky eye to make him look crazy and not hot. Spoiler alert: He still looks hot.
Read MoreIt’s 1947 and there’s an English professor named Humbert Humbert (full stop: I should have just turned off the TV here). He’s just moved to the states and is looking for a place to stay while he teaches. He meets a woman renting out a room in her house, Charlotte Haze, and is basically ready to run out of there (Charlotte is annoying and thirsty) until he sees her 14-year-old daughter, Dolores “Lo” Haze. He describes her as a nymphette and decides to stay just so he can be around her. (full stop: Sir, you’re saying that this little girl is actually a baby seductress?!)

This movie is one of my favorite genres of film, it was you all along! What I call the “it was you all along” genre is any movie with a twist that the main character is COMPLETELY oblivious to even though said twist involves them inherently. Examples of films that fit into this genre are, Memento, The Sixth Sense, Secret Window, Fight Club, The Others…you get the gist.
Read MoreFirst, a quick summary. Please note: SPOILERS AHEAD!
Picture it, we’re in the African kingdom of Dahomey, in the early 1800s and we’re protected by an all-female army lead by General Nanisca (played by Auntie Viola). There’s an opposing group called the Oyo who link up with the Portuguese slave traders. Nanisca’s gals not only protect Dahomey, they free slaves too.
Read MoreI have been so busy these past few Oscar seasons that I haven’t been able to get to the FIDM Costume exhibit until the bitter end. But if you’re like me and time got away from you this spring, don’t fret because I got in under the wire and snagged photos from all of the amazing artists who worked on costuming films last year.
Read MoreI’ve been doing Costume Remixes for a while now to pay tribute to all the amazing designers who inspire me. After 30 remixes, I’m adding to elevating these posts by also doing a review of the film and a rendering. Flashdance will be my first Review, Remix and Rendering.
Read MoreLeft Hand Lacey is the character you love to hate and his style borders on the absurd. That said, I have always been in love with the spin on a spectacle chain that he wears. He has glasses that don’t have arms, but instead have a chain and that chain connects to a single earring. BRILLIANT! Ruth E. Carter strikes again.
Read MoreThe Craft is one of those movies that holds a weird and special place in the hearts of any girl who was a teen in the 90’s. Because I’m black, my fave witch was and always will be Rachel True’s character, Rochelle. I coveted her hair. I coveted her skin. And most of all, I coveted her clothes. Thank you Deborah Everton!
Read MoreOut of Africa is an amazing example of a film that is firing on all cylinders. It is a great story, beautiful cinematography, “ass-off” acting and direction and, my personal favorite, costumes that help mold these characters. All of that aside, this movie is worth the two hours and 41 minutes just for that hair washing scene.
Read More2022 for me was about realizing myself worth and then taking much needed action because of that realization. I was reevaluating my relationships and leaning into self-love. I worked on realizing that I deserve to be treated with the same love, compassion, and care that I give others.
Read MoreAnd for this year’s costume, we decided to go with a duo from our childhood dreams, Keenan and Kel as Dexter and Ed from Good Burger.
